Beginning in 2018 with an enthusiastic sub-committee, the Clonmel Show National Artisan Food Awards evolved from an idea of the then co-chairman of the show to add to the food side of our long established agricultural show. With the help of Sarah Furno of Cashel Farmhouse Cheeses, the idea of an artisan food competition aimed at the smaller artisan producer was born.
We had such a great time in our first year, meeting food producers and sampling their produce. It culminated in a fantastic (& sunny) day at Clonmel Show with the grand-dame of Irish food, Darina Allen presenting prizes to the winners.
2019 brought more entries and great energy on show day from Karen O'Donoghue of GIY who presented the prizes in our Artisan Food marquee. Little did we know that we would have no show in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid!
So we are back with a renewed energy and look forward to receiving entries from long established artisan food producers as well as anticipating entries from the myriad of new food producers that have sprung up during the covid lockdown.
